Penghui HOU was born in Taichung, Taiwan, in 1982. He has received his D.A. from Nihon University Graduate School of Art. He was selected and awarded scholarships as Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Scholar and Nihon University 100th Anniversary Scholar. In 2017, he was invited to exhibit at "Faint Light, Dark Shadows" by Taipei Fine Arts Museum. His work received the "Sawamoto Noriyoshi Award", and is collected by Art Bank Taiwan. He has served as a participating artist in the "Taiwan-Japan Young Visual Artists Exchange Program," a photography instructor for the "Cultural City of East Asia 2016 Nara," a curator for the 2018 Taipei International Photography Festival "TAIPEI PHOTO," and a lecturer at the Nippon Photography Institute. He is also a member of "Lightbox Photo Library", helps organize international exchange events between Taiwan and Japan.
Penghui HOU is currently a faculty member at the National Taiwan Ocean University, where he conducts research, teaching, and exhibition planning. His research expertise focuses on culture and its influence on photography exhibitions in Japan. His doctoral thesis is "A Historic Study of Photography Exhibitions in Japan: Post World War II to Establishment of Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography". He also serves as a column author of "Japan Photo Almanac", which evaluates and organizes annual photo exhibitions in Japan.
