Ching-Hui CHOU

Visual Director of Ushow Design / Senior Photographer

CN

Chou Ching-Hui is one of the representative contemporary photographers in Taiwan. After graduation, he devoted himself as a photography journalist for more than ten years. The experience of photojournalism has become the nourishment for his photographic creation. His first three photography projects: Out of the Shadow, Vanishing Leagues: Images of Workers and Wild Aspirations: The Yellow Sheep River Project are documentary photography which are original from social realities, and present in artistic ways. Animal Farm is his first project to switch from “documentary photography” to “staged photography.” Through delicately exquisite yet vibrantly colored images, he conjures a kind of hyper-real atmosphere to create his own photographic language. Chou applies an artistic approach to interpret true stories through theatrical representations, to present his personal observation and reflection upon the development of modern society.

Chou’s works have received highly international attention in recent years, with his work displayed in countries including Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Italy, Israel, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Russia. His recent overseas solo exhibitions include The Yellow Sheep River Project inIstituto degli Innocenti, Italy; Theatre of Reality in DECK, Singapore; Animal Farm in Chelouche Gallery, Israel, and Animal Farm in Museu do Oriente, Portugal. Chou is like a storyteller who tells stories with his camera. He hopes viewing his photos will provoke profound feelings. Chou currently lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan.
