Chun Wai is the Art Director of the 5A1 Art Space in Shenzhen, an artist and photography art educator. He taught Contemporary Photography at the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education. He graduated from École Supérieure d’Art de Mulhouse and earned his Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique (DNSEP) from the Ministry of Culture in France. His graduate work focused on integrating Western contemporary art with Eastern aesthetics. He believes that art should never rigidly abide by any particular style, but be open to all of life.
Dedicated to art education, Chun Wai actively promotes contemporary photography culture across Asia and Latin America. He serves as an international advisor for the Encuentros Abiertos Festival De La Luz of Argentina, a nominator for the Shpilman International Prize for Excellence in Photography of Israel, and a juror for the 2023 Dali International Photography Festival's Third Asian Pioneer Photographers Award. He was also a curatorial team member for the Beijing Photo Biennale 2015 at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Additionally, he has been a portfolio reviewer for several international photo festivals, including the Singapore International Photo Festival, the Encuentros Abiertos Festival De La Luz of Argentina, and the International Photo Festival of Dali, Lishui, and Lianzhou. Chun Wai has curated exhibitions for renowned international festivals in Argentina, Taipei, Hong Kong, Jimei X Arles, Lianzhou, Lishui, and Dali.
Photography is his primary medium, along with sculpture and installation. He consistently emphasizes that photography provides a pathway to explore the meaning of existence and being, and creates a space for reflection.
