Wu started his research on Photography in the 1970s. In 1970, he joined the Taiwan branch of Hong Kong Commercial Kodak Company as a technical representative. In 1973, he went to the department of photography of Nihon University, majoring in photography.


In 1977, after he returned to Taiwan, he started teaching at several departments in the National Taiwan Art College and the Fu Jen University. In 1985, he was coordinator of Centennial Photography history of Taiwan research team under Council for Cultural Affairs, Executive Yuan.


Since the 1980s, he has curated photography exhibitions in public museums in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Taitung, and Tainan, and also participates as a review committee member of the National Culture and Art Foundation.


In 1981, he started promoting photography cultural events by publishing “NTUA Photography week” at the National Taiwan University of Arts.


Wu founded FOTOSOFT Institute of Photography & Society of Photography in 1985. In 2001, He created world’s  first “Photo Literacy Education”training for enhancing the abilities of image reading and image writing skills of students.


Since 1996, Wu has curated Taiwanese contemporary photography exhibitions in OP Gallery (Hong Kong), Guardian Garden Gallery (Ginza,Tokyo), Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Galleri Image(Aarhus, Denmark), DongGang International Photo Festival, promoting cultural photographic exchange in East Asia.


In 1998, Wu became the member of Orcale. From 2001-2006, he was invited as a commissioner for “Contemporary Photo Exhibitions from Denmark, Netherland, Germany, Hungry, U.S.A, Japan, Korea, Taiwan” for Pinyao International Photography Festival(PIP). Furthermore, he also founded Photo Education Exhibition Area, Photo Educator Forum, Curator School, Curator’s Choice, Portfolio Review at the PIP in 2004.
